Dr. Shafa Has A Passion For Discussing Medical & Scientific Accuracy. Have A Television Or Press Opportunity?
After my father underwent open brain surgery when I was in high school, I decided I wanted to become a doctor. I enrolled at The George Washington University and was accepted to the prestigious and highly competitive accelerated, seven-year combined B.A./M.D. program. My interests in medical school shifted from neurosurgery to ENT to general surgery, following in my brother's footsteps, before I found my passion in radiology and specifically interventional radiology, which is a field of minimally invasive intervention combining aspects of surgery and radiology that treats conditions from head-to-toe. In 2016, I started residency at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, one of the best academic institutions in the world. I completed my preliminary year of training in general surgery at UCLA and have since moved to New York City where I am currently a chief radiology resident, will be completing a neuroradiology fellowship, and am currently applying for an additional fellowship in interventional radiology.
